Frequently Asked Questions

ABSOLUTELY NOT! While their title can be misleading, Athletic Therapists work with individuals of all activity levels and backgrounds, not just athletes.Their specialized approach can benefit anyone who wants to recover from injury, reduce pain, or enhance their physical performance, regardless of whether they participate in sports.

Whether you’re recovering from a workplace injury, dealing with chronic pain, or simply looking to improve your mobility and overall physical function, an Athletic Therapist can help.

In Canada, Athletic Therapy and Physiotherapy are both highly respected fields focused on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and improving physical performance. However, there are some key differences between the two:

Scope: Athletic Therapy is more specialized in sports-related injuries and the musculoskeletal system, while Physiotherapy has a broader focus across various health areas and conditions.

Clientele: Athletic Therapists are often chosen by active individuals or athletes looking for sport-specific support, whereas Physiotherapists work with a more diverse population, addressing various conditions and health goals.

Education and Certification: Athletic Therapists are certified by CATA, focusing on sports related injuries and emergency care. Physiotherapists are licensed by provincial regulatory bodies, with education that covers a broader range of health concerns.

In summary, while both professionals work towards similar goals of rehabilitation and improved physical function, Athletic Therapy is particularly well-suited for sports and activity-related injuries, whereas Physiotherapy encompasses a broader spectrum of healthcare needs.

I take a holistic approach to healthcare, considering the whole person—mind, body, and nervous system— and your full health history. I focus on treating the root cause of issues, not just the symptoms, and work closely with my clients to develop personalized treatment interventions, rehabilitation plans, and training programs that meet their unique needs.

Some insurance companies in BC do cover Certified Athletic Therapy, including ICBC, Hockey Canada, Chamber of Commerce and other private insurers. However, Athletic Therapy may not be specifically mentioned in the extended benefits literature from your employer or insurance provider. It’s best to contact your Health Plan administrator or Human Resources department to confirm whether Athletic Therapy is included in your coverage.

If Athletic Therapy isn’t part of your plan, you may have a Flex Health Spending Account or a similar option that could help cover these sessions.

Interested in adding Athletic Therapy to your plan? It may be as simple as a call to your insurance broker to combine it with other services, like Physiotherapy or Registered Massage Therapy.

Additionally, if you participate in an organized sport or activity, you might already be covered by organizations like AllSport Insurance or the Canadian Athlete Insurance Program (C.A.I.P.).

Unfortunately, I am not able to provide direct billing for Athletic Therapy services with the exception of ICBC. You will have to submit your receipt to your insurer in order to receive a reimbursement.

Yes, I do provide telemedicine services for select appointments. This allows clients to access my unique care even when they’re out of town or living outside Revelstoke.
