Nakusp:
I also see clients at Nakusp Integrative Health approximately every three weeks.
There is a lot of overlap between these professions, and individual practitioners may work quite differently.
Athletic Therapy focuses on assessing and rehabilitating injuries and helping people return to work, sport, and everyday activities. Treatment often combines hands-on therapy, exercise, movement retraining, and strength and conditioning.
Osteopathy takes a whole-body, hands-on approach, looking at how different areas of the body may influence pain and movement. Treatment may involve the muscles, joints, fascia, spine, cranium, and viscera.
Physiotherapy is a broad healthcare profession that helps restore movement and function following injury, illness, or disability. Treatment may include exercise, manual therapy, education, and other rehabilitation strategies.
Chiropractic commonly focuses on musculoskeletal conditions, particularly involving the spine and joints, using approaches that may include manual therapy, spinal manipulation, exercise, and education.
My approach combines my training in osteopathy and athletic therapy with rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and brain-based tools. Rather than choosing one technique or treating only the painful area, I use the approach that makes the most sense for your symptoms, goals, and stage of recovery.
Not at all. Athletic Therapy isn't just for athletes. I work with outdoor enthusiasts, active adults, people recovering from injuries, and those dealing with persistent pain or movement limitations.
Athletic Therapists are trained to assess and rehabilitate musculoskeletal injuries and help people return to the activities that matter to them—whether that's work, everyday life, outdoor pursuits, or competitive sport.
Many extended health plans in British Columbia cover treatment provided by CMMOTA Manual Osteopathic Therapists (MOT). However, coverage and annual limits vary depending on your insurer and individual plan.
Before booking, I recommend contacting your insurance provider and asking whether your plan covers treatment by a Manual Osteopathic Therapist who is a member of CMMOTA.
If you're covered, you'll receive a receipt after your appointment that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Not sure what to ask? Give your insurer my name and CMMOTA membership information, and they can confirm whether your plan provides coverage.
Athletic Therapy is covered by some extended health plans, although coverage varies between insurers and employers. It may also be listed under categories such as exercise rehabilitation rather than specifically as “Athletic Therapy.”
The best way to confirm your coverage is to contact your insurance provider, plan administrator, or HR department and ask whether services provided by a Certified Athletic Therapist, CAT(C) are included.
If Athletic Therapy isn't covered directly, you may be able to use a Health Spending Account or similar benefit.
Motor vehicle accident? ICBC rehabilitation is available under the kinesiology category. Visit my ICBC page to learn more.
Additionally, if you participate in an organized sport or activity, you might already be covered by organizations like AllSport Insurance or the Canadian Athlete Insurance Program (C.A.I.P.).
It depends on your goals, the complexity of your issue, and how you respond to treatment. Some people notice meaningful changes within a few sessions, while others benefit from a more progressive treatment and rehabilitation plan.
After your first visit, I'll recommend a plan based on what we find. The frequency is flexible and can be adapted to your needs, goals, schedule, and budget.
Yes, when available. Many insurance providers now allow direct billing for Osteopathy and Athletic Therapy through TELUS Health. However, eligibility depends on your insurer and individual plan, so direct billing cannot always be guaranteed.
If your plan doesn't allow direct billing, you'll receive a receipt to submit to your insurer for reimbursement. For most providers, this can be done easily online or through their app.
ICBC: Approved rehabilitation sessions are billed directly to ICBC, so you don't need to submit your treatment receipts yourself.
Yes. Virtual appointments are available for Athletic Therapy, rehabilitation, and Strength & Performance Coaching, whether you're travelling, live outside Revelstoke, or simply prefer to work remotely.
If you're unsure whether virtual care is appropriate for your injury, symptoms, or goals, feel free to get in touch or book a discovery call.
